Howdy, y'all. I figured this would be an excellent time to voice my opinion about political candidates in this upcoming election cycle. I have some shit to say.
CYNDI MUNSON (for governor) - A little about Cyndi, first. She has served in the Oklahoma House of Representatives since 2015. Prior to that she worked in the private sector with nonprofits. She's the first Asian-American woman elected to the state Legislature. She puts a strong emphasis on public education, healthcare access, and economic relief for working families. She also has excellent experience and a great record in the Legislature. The only small red flags are that she could have a difficult relationship with the Legislature since Republicans hold a supermajority - for now. Her social policies may conflict with conservatives as she supports access to safe abortion care, but she supports a pause on data center projects pending new rules and a more thorough review.
MIKE MAZZEI (for governor) - Mike served 12 years in the Oklahoma Senate and chaired the Finance Committee. He has a background in business leadership. He wants to reduce taxes, but he also cannot explain where we make up for the budget shortfall. He also has an abysmal voting record in the Senate. He supports diverting public school funds to school choice programs. He proposes support to rural hospitals, but he doesn't specify where he plans to find the funding to do so. He also supports the Inola aluminum smelter, and that makes him an automatic no for me.
KELLY FORBES (for lieutenant governor) - He's an educator and wants to prioritize public school funding, affordable healthcare, and workforce development as well as government transparency. Yes to Dr. Forbes.
T.W. SHANNON (for lieutenant governor) - Absolutely not. He spends more time arguing with his opponents and detractors on Facebook than actually talking about what he wants to accomplish. We've had enough MAGA grandstanding. Pass.
ROBERTO SEDA - He is running for state representative in District 91 as a Republican. While he was on the Oklahoma City Board of Adjustment he basically told me that my fears of living beside an Airbnb rental were "generic", but lo and behold every one of those fears played out. This man is a jackass disguised as a bigger jackass. It's an absolute no. Chris Fowler it is.
CYNDI BYRD - She's a Republican, but she has generally had an excellent record as State Auditor. She goes after the problem - even if it is in her own party - and she has been extremely transparent. She would make an excellent addition to the Treasury.
ROBERT FRANKLIN - He's a Republican with more than 40 years of experience in education and teaches leadership courses at the University of Oklahoma - Tulsa. Also a great pick despite the stigma of his chosen party. It's a yes.
TOM COLE - Fuck no. Absolutely not. This man has accomplished jack shit in the 23 years 9 months he has been in office. It's time to send his ass back home. You can call his office at 405-329-6500 and tell him I said so.
